Here's the edit that I gave Esquire for the story on Radu. They chose to run 1,4,9 and 11. I'll post the PDF once the magazine is out.

Nationalized Houses

This lady, Aurelia Bufea, threatened to set herself on fire earlier today because she and her family were evicted from the nationalized house they were living in. A lot of bystanders, including camera crews, cops and kids. Too many kids.

Expomariage, a place where you could buy a lot of scary things, such as wedding gowns , rings and shiny invitations.

The Romanian Railroad Company had a strike that paralyzed the whole country for a few hours. Here are a few pics from the main train station in Bucharest.

Radu

Meet Radu. He's been in jail for the last 5 years for robbery. He used to be a journalist before going to jail. Though still in prison, he gets out 5 days a week, 9h a day, to work for a TV station in Timisoara, Romania, where he has his own show about convicts and life in jail. I followed him in and out of jail for three days last week to do a story for Esquire. I'll post more when I'm done editing.

Horse Race

I shot a traditional horse race in a village 50 km north of Bucharest this Sunday.

Palestinian Show

The Palestinian community in Romania put on a little show on a stage in Bucharest to celebrate the beginning of Yasser Arafat's revolution in 1965. Here are a few pics of what was going on off stage.

A Little More Snow

A car lies underneath thick snow downtown Bucharest. Heavy snow covered Romania and paralyzezd traffic throughout the country.

The Prime Minister threw a little Christmas party at the government's palace the other day. Different characters were hired to entertain guests and the staff's children.

First real snow

Last night we had the first real snow in Bucharest. I'm saying "real" since it had snowed once before, but just for an hour or so.

Freshmen's prom

There's a sort of prom for freshmen in Romania's colleges. A friend had to photograph one last night, so I tagged along and tried to shoot the mood of the place.

1: Prom queen and king wannabes check their outfits in the mirror in the bathroom before going on stage.
2: People dancing up on a balcony.
3: A lot of photographing went on throughout the night.
4: And a little flirt.

Traffic

The traffic in Bucharest is getting worse from one day to the next. Last night I called my friend Ikuru and suggested that we each go out and photograph the traffic jam. The problem was that last night a lot of police was out, so there was no jam, at least where I walked. So here's a rough start to a soon-to-come essay on traffic.

Vadim
